Viagra is formulated as a blue, film-coated rounded-diamond-shaped tablet in 3 doses: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg. The recommended starting does for most patients is 50 mg taken, as needed, approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However, Viagra may be taken anywhere from 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. Based on effectiveness and toleration, the dose may be increased to 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg. • If you have renal impairment, the recommended starting dose is 25 mg every 48 hours (2 days).
• If you experience prostate problems or high blood pressure for which you take medications called alpha blockers, your doctor will start you on a lower dose of 5 mg.

Ask your doctor for more dosage adjustments. Do not take Viagra more than once a day. In some cases, the use of Viagra may be restricted to once every 72 hours (3 days). Viagra is usually taken when needed and may be taken anywhere between 15 minutes up to 4 hours before sexual activity. The amount of time Viagra takes to work varies from person to person, but generally takes between 14 to 60 minutes. What happens if I miss a dose of Viagra?

Viagra is taken as needed, so it is unlikely that you will miss a dose. However, if you do forget to take Viagra before intimacy, do not take a double dose. Taking a larger dose than recommended will not cause Viagra to work faster and, in fact, may be dangerous to your health.

What happens if I overdose on Viagra?

If you take more than your prescribed amount of Viagra or if you develop dizziness, nausea, or angina (pain, tightness, discomfort, numbness, or tingling in the chest, arms, neck, or jaw) during sexual activity, refrain from further sexual activity and call your doctor or emergency room right away.
